Thoughts on the GOP Presidential Candidate Debate
Spirited debate with several candidates stepping up to the plate with bringing their A game. I loved Newt’s full on brawl with the media and Bachmann’s principled stance and fighting spirit.
Yet another debate where the GOP candidates shied away from taking on Romney. C’mon folks, he is not the golden child he has fatal flaws that are there for the taking. Perhaps Perry will be the man to take on the Golden Child.
The biggest losers of this debate were the Bret Baier and Bryan York for their profound inability to focus on objective questions and tendency to bait candidates with low brow questions. The debate should not focus on two overstuffed reporters, it’s about highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the GOP presidential hopefuls.
Raw scores on this debate:
Romney: A – He is riding his Golden Child status, that will change with Perry in the race.
Pawlenty C
Bachmann: A+
Santorum: B
Gingrich: B
Cain: D
Huntsman: F
Paul: F

I agree-whether one agrees w/her or not, in this debate Bachmann cleaned house. I don’t think Romney was that good despite the gold-child status you speak of. He was so obviously flaky. Newt 2nd place I’d say-loved his confrontation w/the moderators.
Finally Paul vs. Santorum-I of course agree much more w/Rick BUT as far as debate performance, I thought Rick had the worst night. Not totally his fault-the moderators totally dissed his ass.
Rather than media talking heads embarassing America with their self-serving, pompous, potshots, questions should be solicited ahead of debates from everyday American citizens. With mainstream media’s distorted view of American life and politicians answering to the media more than those they represent, our nation’s gov ernance, culture, virtue, and credibility will not improve.
Grades for Aug 11, 2011 debate. Saw more future cabinet members than president -yet.
Bachmann B-
Cain C+ (Sec. of Defense)
Gingrich A- (Sec. of State)
Huntsman F (please drop out now)
Paul B – (Attorney General)
Pawlenty B (Chief of Staff)
Romney B (SEC or FTC head)
Santorum B+ (Vice President)
No insult Gov Pawlenty, just think you’d be better on the ground in operations of the White House and Washington DC for now. Build your knowledge and networks some more and you’ll become President by a landslide in ’16 or ’20! You’re on the way to being a hands-down favorite.
I kinda hope Perry or Bachman will get traction. While Romney would be a BIG improvement over Obummer (and that ain’t sayin’ much), RomneyCare and his support for gun control are hard for me to overlook.
I have enjoyed all the previous debates as well as this one. I even thought Ron Paul was scoring points until he went off the deep end and defended Iran. He’s still stuck on stupid where foreign policy and the military are concerned.
Funny thing about Pawlenty is that people have been saying for months he needs to be more aggressive. He took on Bachmann last night and now some folks say he was too mean. I thought Bachmann, who did well overall, damaged herself too in that spat with Pawlenty.
Perry was wise to skip all this squabbling and set himself up for his grand entrace at the debate at the Reagan Library on Sept. 7th.
P.S. Are there any sane F’ing Aces readers left?
