The West Chester Rally by Xdhimmi

Your Carin’ Reporter in West Chester:

Thank You for this outstanding video, Xdhimmi! Your comparison with mein kampf is spot on. This video along with Lutz and myself will keep the spotlight on the real issue of this rally.

Hang on, didn’t Karen warn her groupies NOT to ‘talk back’ to the pro victory supporters? Why yes, she did:

So when is Karen going to denounce this woman as not being part of her group? Most likely never, since this woman IS part of her group. Notice the sign she carrying emblazoned with the website United for Peace and Justice. Keep that thought in mind as I discuss the next installment of the Karen narrative.

Subject: West Chester Counter-protestors part of NATIONAL (not LOCAL) Intimidation Effort

I have maintained for the past few weeks that

(1) The counter-protestor group has more behind it than just a disgruntled individual who doesn’t like our peace vigils;

(2) We might never know the whole story – unless either the police or a journalist did some hard digging.

Well, it happened this morning, folks. A young, mild-mannered Daily Local News reporter, Justin McAneny (thank you, Justin!), spilled the beans this morning in the paper. All he had to do was go up to a counter-protestor (who’s been there for weeks) and ask him a few questions – Chris Hill.

We give soldiers a voice by standing up for them” said Chris Hill, national director of operations for the Gathering of Eagles, a nonprofit organization that supports American troops.

This is the same group that allegedly beat up a Gold Star father – someone tipped me off about this weeks ago, but I did not feel ready to share that information with all of you till I knew more – now I know more:

Let me fill my readers and my lurkers in on the fine details of this allegation. My industrious videographer buddy was fortunate enough to capture the scene of the alleged attack moments after the police broke it up. You can see the alleged gold star father is in pristine condition. You can just hear the description of the alleged gold star father jumping the veteran from behind – @1:51 in this video.

Chris Hill, who’s been on our corner for 3 weeks now, is NATIONAL – he’s the same Chris Hill Bush “entertained” at the White House. He’s also the same guy who came up and took both my hands, looking into my face and sarcastically saying a whole lot of stuff (polite word) to me 3 weeks ago. He’s been on our corner for 3 weeks now. This stuff isn’t local

National is a description that can also be to the CCpeacemovement. Without the benefit of a crack Daily Local reporter to do all the difficult research, I’ve discovered Karen’s advertisement of her weekly peace protest listed on the website of United for Peace and Justice. An Anti-War Coaliton consisting of more than 1300 local and national groups.

I’ve been aware of this advertisement after my first visit to Courthouse. Apparently, Karen has no qualms about aligning her peace protest with a National Anti-War organization, but takes offense when Rich Davis reaches out to The Gathering of Eagles. I smell hypocrite in the air…don’t you.

Screen capture – a fun little function I’ve discovered on Paint Shop Pro IX:

Who is UFPJ?

United For Peace and Justice (UFPJ) is an anti-war coalition consisting of more than 1,300 local and national groups joined together “to protest the immoral and disastrous Iraq War and oppose our [American] government’s policy of permanent warfare and empire-building.”

The Co-Chair and principal leader of UFPJ is Leslie Cagan, an original founder of the Committees of Correspondence (a remnant organization created by the American Communist Party upon going out of business) and a strong supporter of Fidel Castro since the 1960s; Cagan proudly aligns her politics with those of Communist Cuba. The L.A. Times noted that United for Peace and Justice aided in fundraising efforts for Medea Benjamin’s trip to Fallujah where she delivered more than half-a-million dollars in aid to “the other side”.

The breadth of UFPJ’s agendas extends well beyond anti-war activism. Passionately anti-American, this group condemns virtually every aspect of U.S. foreign policy and domestic life.

UFPJ has received financial support from the Colombe Foundation, the Samuel Rubin Foundation, the Shefa Fund, the Tides Foundation (1), and the Town Creek Foundation.

1. During the years 1995-2001, the Howard Heinz Endowment, which Heinz Kerry chairs, gave Tides more than $4.3 million. The combined Heinz Endowments (composed of the Howard Heinz Endowment and the Vira I. Heinz Endowment) donated $1.6 million to establish the Tides Center for Western Pennsylvania, a Pittsburgh office of the San Francisco-based Tides Center. SOURCE

Shunning – ‘Quaker’ Style

From: “Ccpeacemovemant@aol.com” < mailto:Ccpeacemovemant@aol.com

Subject: [Peace] To anyone who “talked back” to counterprotestors–you know
who you are–DON’T
I’m not going to single anyone out, but I have been
given some identifying information – so I know who you are in a couple of cases
.
And, trust me, I know how hard it is not to respond to constant verbal abuse -
I’m their main target, so I know exactly how you feel. I have one thing to
say: DON’T. And, if you can’t refrain from responses to them, PLEASE
DON’T COME. I have had reports of a few people responding to them – DON’T.
YOU AREN’T HELPING US, YOU ARE HURTING US – SERIOUSLY. One name given to me
was someone who doesn’t even come to our vigils regularly, which has caused some
to ask, reasonably, “Is [person] on our side or theirs?” – and I say to that
person/s,IF YOU CANNOT RESTRAIN YOUR WORDS, YOU ARE MAKING TROUBLE FOR US, NOT
FOR THEM. SO PLEASE DON’T COME.
If I see this happening, I will go to the
police and the news media and tell them “That person’s not with us,” and I will
make that clear.
And you might as well join the counter-protestors because
you’re helping them, not us. I can’t make anyone do or not do anything, legally,
but I can make it clear to the police and the press that some people do not
represent the rest of us. Have I made myself clear? I have gone to great
lengths to issue “Ground Rules,” to tell people not to respond, to tell people
to “stifle it.” This makes me feel like a parent admonishing a child, and
it is totally unfair for you to place me in that position – so please… just…
DON’T.

A rather ominous warning from the leader of the ccpeacemovement to her fellow peace protesters. I wonder what Karen has planned for those who have spoken with myself and my fellow compatriots. Also, who gave her the names? Do the peace-protesters police themselves for adherence to their perceived political status quo? This is not very Quaker-like behavior, quite frankly, it is closer in resemblance to Mein Kampf.

The phrase ‘talked back’ is quite vague in this letter, perhaps deliberately so. Over the course of several weeks, I’ve talked to several of the peace protesters, and yes, they have ‘talked back’ to me. In a peaceful society one would call this civil dialog. My hope is to continue the dialog and find understanding. I fear my efforts to reach out to this group have resulted in their shunning.

The photos below document the peaceful encounters between the two sides that has occurred on a weekly basis. Photos courtesy of Barbara Cunningham, NeoCon and myself.

Gathering Drumbeat of Victory

It has been a hectic week for the supporters of the Chester County Victory Rally. There has been a huge amount of media interest in our cheerful Saturday meetup at the Chester County Courthouse. To keep my readers and lurkers up to date, I’ve compiled a list of our recent media notices.

Ed Mahon, Philadelphia Inquirer writer, penned the essay entitled:

Both sides get to have a corner on this Market – Antiwar and veterans groups in West Chester demonstrate they can coexist.

Justin McAneny, writing for The Daily Local, reported on the rally held on Saturday:

Protesters Gather in West Chester

Dan Hirschhorn, staff writer for the Evening Bulletin, remarks on the rally:

Dueling War Protests Take Over West Chester

Art Carey, journalist for the Inquirer, had this to say about the peace protesters and the Victory Rally:

Protest vs. protest boils in W. Chester

On 10/18/2007, Rich Davis talked about the Courthouse Rally on The Bill Bennet Radio Show.

After reading, Art Carey’s article, Dom Giordano has asked Rich to be a guest on his program tonight – 10/18/2007.

Have I missed any??

Can you hear it….the growing drumbeat.

You know, it only took them WEEKS to ask for photographic assistance. Not quick on the uptake, are they. Of course, I will do my level best to capture the antics of Karen and her groupies. They NEVER disappoint me.

Subject: [Peace] This Saturday’s VIGIL: For SAFETY – Stay off curb, please. Bring cameras.

For years, we have stood safely on or near the curb at our vigils, which is very nice for some wonderful conversations with passing motorists.
We can’t do that now (don’t worry – someday we will go back to normal, only a temporary thing).
FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, PLEASE DO NOT STAND ON THE CURB or anywhere else near moving traffic. (And, as usual, never stand in crosswalks or block pedestrian or motor traffic.)
ALSO, please go nowhere near the motorcycles.
ALSO, always be with one other peace vigiler. If you come alone and have no one to stand with, come to me – I’ll make sure you make a new friend.
AND bring cameras if you can – either for still shots or videos. We need documentation of everything going on.
AND don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1 if necessary. Don’t even ask – just do it.

Looks like the Karen and her groupies are setting themselves up for failure. You know there will be numerous frivolous 9-1-1 calls from her group. I wonder how many times the police will respond before they start citing Karen’s group? This information has been forwarded to the Chester County PD.

As a review for those coming in late to my illumination of a typical ‘peace’ organization. I submit for your education, my collection videos:

The premier video – Karen advocating to her minions to call 9-1-1 on a DOG! Her latest email invokes her groupies to call 9-1-1 on the humans.

Rich’s speech, interrupted by catcalls from a ‘peace’ protester.

A peaceful pro victory rally – not quite the scene Karen has woven in her newsletters.

Censorship: An example of the ‘dialog’ employed by the ‘peace’ protesters. Note the sign being purposely placed in front of my video camera.

I, along with my brothers and sisters, will continue to document and illuminate the Chester County’s peace movement’s threats, slurs and attempts of censorship against fellow American citizens.

Chester County Victory Rally

Another blissful Saturday spent on the steps of the Chester County Courthouse. It is such a pleasure to record the events as they unfold each Saturday and I look forward to many, many more such days. There was a marked difference in the mood of this weekly convergence of opinions – the atmosphere seemed quite jovial and light. Perhaps it was the change in musical entertainment – our grass roots band was replaced with a high tech boom box.

The right side of this debate brimmed with energy, laughter and American flags. One of the good guys offered a small American flag to Karen Porter. The gesture was met with a stony rejection from Karen. It must be noted that there were NO American flags held by any of the peace-protesters today.

Color me unsurprised.

Ever the dictator, Karen demanded that Rich arrange for the removal of our signs from the steps of the Courthouse with no mention of the removal of her signs sitting next to ours. Rich considered the demand, then promptly ignored it. Not to be outdone, a Karen-groupie attempted to express the Quaker/liberal understanding of ‘free speech’, otherwise known as censorship. During Karen’s end of rally speech, a groupie attempted to block my video by repeatedly placing his ‘peace’ sign in front of my miniDV. Dipstick. Now I’ve got video proof of active liberal censorship. It gets better and better with each visit to this rally! All I have to do is sit back, grab the camera and miniDV and let their own words and actions condemn them. FYI: Melissa and Chris were no-shows at this rally – Color me unsurprised – again!

Pro Victory Rally at Chester County Courthouse

A beautiful day for a victory rally. It was soul inspiring to stand with my brothers and sisters in the face of the ignorant.

Karen latest screed has her suggesting signs for Rich Davis:

With the recent “counter” protest coming from Rich Davis, you may have achieved part of the goal. The “enemy” is not Rich Davis, he is part of the people – the enemy is a government that no longer listens to the majority of the people, a government that no longer has the consent of the governed. While I detest war, I’ll offer a suggestion for a sign (attached) that Rich might not object to as much. I’m not sure what his problem is, if he wants to promote the war, he should come out every weekend with signs that say (in typical Alice’s Restaurant genre)

“Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill, KILL, KILL.” And I started jumpin up and down yelling, “KILL, KILL,” and he started jumpin up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down yelling, “KILL, KILL.” And the Sargent came over, pinned a medal on me, sent me down the hall, said, “You’re our boy.”
The above is a classic example of the type of tolerance shared by our fellow ‘peace protestors’ at the Chester County Rally.

UPDATE: My newest friend Richard has upload his fabulous photos from the West Chester Rally – you can view them HERE

An Open Letter from a Common Thug

Wayne Lutz responds to Karen Porter’s crass characterization of Rich and his supporters.

To the editor:

An Open Letter from a Common Thug
What a lovely town West Chester is! I have lived half my life in the Philadelphia area and this past Saturday was the first time I’ve ever been to your town, and I did not realize what I’ve been missing! Attractive, clean streets, quaint shops, interesting architecture. What a shame to ruin it by allowing in a thug like me and “my kind.” When I and a few close friends arrived on that beautiful, clear, and dry weekend, I have no doubt that property values immediately took a nosedive. For that I do apologize, but it was for a worthy cause, as I shall try to articulate.
Your story of September 30, by Justin McAneny, titled “Protesters Gather in West Chester” tells much of the tale. It is a sordid and complex affair, one side saying this and the other side saying that about protests in general and the war against radical Islam in particular. I would not try to argue the war here – it’s been done to death. What I would like to point out, however, is the blindingly obvious hypocrisy, elitist snobbery, and sheer, seething hatred that is evident in the written diatribe sent out by the “director of the Chester County Peace Movement,” Ms. Karen Porter, in describing the people and events of that day. For the sake of clarity, I shall refer to the people on that “side” as the “liberals,” and the people on my side as the “thugs.”
“Thug,” you see, was one of the many descriptive terms used Ms. Porter to describe me and some of my friends in her “newsletter.” The interesting thing about this is that she has never seen or heard of me before. She does not know me, none of them spoke to me that day, nor did I speak to any of them. So how did they know that I am a “thug?” Why, by the position I took on the issues, is all that I can assume. That, and the fact that I am (among other things) a…..biker! You may now indicate your righteous indignation with a sharp intake of the breath.
This quote from your newspaper article is telling: “I was quite surprised by his [Richard Davis'] speech,” Porter said, “all the name calling.”
This is quite stunning, in that in her own newsletter written the very next day, Ms. Porter called us, “thug,” “grey-bearded men in their leather jackets and metal studs, with their phallic motorcycles with hideous roaring engines,” (there were three motorcycles present, and they were parked), “sad and pitiful men,” “death-cheering women, “hardened and wrinkled faces showing hatred that mothers and daughters just shouldn’t show,” “harbingers of the very worst mankind has to offer.” Ms. Porter even resorted to that old liberal standby; comparing us to the “KKK,” we who dare to stand there holding American flags. How horrible, holding American flags!
No, that was incorrect. Not “holding flags,” or even “waving flags,” but “waving Old Glory like swords, not like flags.” Yes, that was us, charging with our flags, impaling old ladies and batting aside small children and puppies.
To Ms. Porter, we are men “decked out in gray beards on those wrinkled faces and leather and metal” and pursuing “those old men’s wet dreams.” This is quite hurtful to me, as I’ve always preferred to think of myself as “ruggedly handsome.”
The fact, of course, is that Ms. Porter does not know me at all, nor does she care to. She typifies the classic definition of liberal elitist, a snob whose preconceptions and bigotries are all that matter. Yes, I said it. Ms. Porter is a bigot (and I assume that by association her followers are equally bigoted), and her very own written words damn her – she does not need me or my fellow thugs to do that.
Ms. Porter and her minions were livid that we “Outsiders” had come to her beloved corner of West Chester to upset her myopic world view. She made that point several times, that we (just a few of us, in fact) are not residents of West Chester. What Ms. Porter does not seem to “get” is that she and her group are not out there protesting the “War in West Chester.” Nor are they calling for the impeachment of the Mayor of West Chester. They are protesting the United States, and calling for the impeachment of the President of the United States. Last time I checked I was a citizen of the United States, the same United States that I honorably served for ten years, and if Ms. Porter is insulted by “Outsiders” then she should confine her protests to local issues. What is it about that concept that is so hard to understand?
No, the objection to “outsiders” is just one more glaring example of the elitist snobbery and outright bigotry that permeates her entire written screed.
Let me close by clarifying something about myself to Karen Porter and her fellow bigots, and to the good citizens of West Chester. In her “newsletter,” inserted there among paragraph after paragraph of insults, “name calling,” and utterly ignorant and unfounded assumptions about who we are (can you say “prejudice?), Ms. Porter says that we are “Men who should know better, who should be at better places in their lives, men who should be making positive contributions to our young folks’ futures…”
So allow me to introduce myself, Ms. Porter. I am Wayne Lutz. I am the Chief Operations Officer of a large church in Philadelphia. I am a professional writer, published in newspapers, consumer magazines, other print and electronic media.
I am the founder and executive director of a non-profit technology company that teaches computer skills to the poor, for free, in a large computer lab/classroom that I built with my own hands on my own time. We also refurbish used computers and give them away to the poor in the hopes of helping them build better lives.
I am actively involved in youth projects aimed at saving as many urban youths as we can reach. I oversee a food bank which gives bags of groceries to the poor – no questions asked.
You mention in your written screed that one of your members couldn’t be there Saturday because he was at a military funeral. I have attended 30 such funerals in the past two years, Ms. Porter, often riding my “hideous,” “phallic motorcycle” hundreds of miles in harsh weather conditions to get there. I actively work to give support and aid to the family members of our military men and women. I have a stack of letters, certificates, medallions, mementos and plaques as high as my knees from family members, active duty military members and officers and commanders, thanking me for the work that I do for them every day of my life. I get three weeks of vacation each year and I use every one of those 21 days for these troop-and-veterans activities, as required.
I am the Ride Captain for the South East PA Patriot Guard riders, who shield grieving families from hate-filled “protesters,” people like you, Ms. Porter, who would bring even more pain to them if they could with your thoughtless, irresponsible little signs.
I am the Pennsylvania Coordinator for the Gathering of Eagles, a grassroots group of Patriots and heroes.
I am a member of the Friends of the Forgotten, a POW/MIA awareness group, and their volunteer webmaster.
I am the assistant Director of the Marne Riders, the motorcycle branch of the Society of the 3rd Infantry Division. We do things for soldiers and their families at Walter Reed Hospital that you could not comprehend, Ms. Porter.
I am a member of the Cold War Veteran’s Association, who lobbies and works for the benefit and living conditions of veterans and their families.
I am a member of the Greater Glenside Patriotic Association.
I am a member of the 5th Street Revitalization Advisory Committee, a group dedicated to revitalizing a run down urban area for the benefit of all of the working class and poor citizens who live there.
I am all of those things, Ms. Porter, and more. And yet, all you saw was a “thug” acting out a “wet dream.”
What does that make you?
Wayne Lutz

Rich Davis Responds to Karen’s blathering:

Karen,
I am speechless, astounded really.
I too, am not a doormat. Please don’t ever call me a trouble-maker or violent or war-monger again. You have a lot of nerve calling me a “name caller”.
Whenever you point a finger, there’s 4 pointing back at you. And how dare you insult my daughter! You know nothing about her, what’s on her mind or whats happening in her day or life. She is doing 3 internships, full-time class schedule, part-time job, helping raise her neices, and other things. If you had taken a second to cross the street and say “Hello” to her, you would have been surprised how pleasant and nice she is. But instead, you sit and judge… If I had seen your son show up, I would have crossed the street and said, “Hello, I’ve heard so many great things about you.” But that’s me. When I showed up to counter you the 2nd time (it was just me and my stepdaughter Jamie) a woman came running up to us we were coming towards you screaming and yelling, “We’re trying to save lives, you son of a bitch” he repeated the SOB, twice… I had to ask her to calm down…. All you have to do is ask your group this, and I’m sure they will confirm it – Also, the first time, I was cussed and I was confronted aggressively by a few of you..badgering me, not to mention I had to keep moving because your people kept trying to block my sign and me from being seen by drivers (I think it was the guy with the disfigured American Flag – with the peace symbol where the stars should be). It’s okay for him to wave his flag like crazy (it’s on video, on Midnight Blue blog) but patriotic bikers are attacked by you for having flags…. I didn’t make a big deal out of it out of the way some of your peace people treated me the first couple times. I didn’t complain, or threaten to call the police – I’m tougher than that, but I was shocked that your group (not all, but a significant few), supposedly for peace and tolerance, could not control their emotions. I thought to myself, “my goodness, they’ve been here every single week for years and someone shows up with a different sign and they can’t handle it ?”….. I was surprised. And I was disappointed that no one stepped forward and said anything to calm them down…. – maybe you didn’t notice? I guess you’re blind to any meaness or aggression coming from your side. By the 3rd week, things seemed to settling – you still didn’t like me being there (of course) but at least the civility was beginning. I was happy to talk to Peter Lane when he called me on my home phone, and I was happy to meet you Karen, I really thought we could set a great example. But, I guess you are so blinded by your mission that you didn’t see God there yesterday. I did. I thought we were all assembled for over 4 hours total (minus lunchtime between protests) and yet there was no problem… instead of praising each side you were seething inside….. why? because we don’t agree with you – you see no good in us at all. You refuse to see any good in us – because we have the audacity to not think like you or like you want us too… I’ve done my best to explain how I feel about what you say about me in your newsletter, you can mock my effort, and me, some more, if you want.

Chester Rally – Part Two

“First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Our pro-victory/pro-freedom rally made the front page of the Daily Local News! One quote from Karen Porter, director of the weekly protests in front of the Courthouse, stood out:

Porter said she does think that Davis “is a nice guy … (but) the man that I saw speaking was not the man that I had spoken with before. “I was quite surprised by his speech,” Porter said, “all the name calling.”

Well, she would be the resident expert on name calling, as evidenced by Karen Porter herself in an email to her groupies after Saturday’s protest:

Message: 1Date: Sat, 29 Sep 2007 17:00:09

EDTFrom: Ccpeacemovement@aol.com

Subject: [Peace] Thanks to all of you who came out to today’s
vigil. My take on it.

To: peace@list s.wayreth.netMessage-ID: c31.1c24a0be.343016d9@aol.com

If Rich Davis, head of the counter-protestor group, contacts me (which I Figure he will) with a “How did it go?”, here’s what I’ve drafted, Which I’ll Share with you now. I’ve been gracious and understanding, but I’m also No Doormat – so here goes: Scene: Lovely early autumn West Chester day. Our folks out with the Usual Signs. Peace troubadors playing and singing. Counter-protestors with Motor Cycles, leather-and-metal outfits and boots (picture Hell’s Angels), Women-folk with very harsh mouths and hardened expressions, American Flags all over.

Imagine that, American Flags are upsetting to Karen – remember, she is the first to say she supports our troops. Women with harsh mouths and hardened expressions? Perhaps she confused some of her own membership with this description – examples of which I present below:

Even Karen herself could not muster a smile…

Conversely, the pro-victory side included smiling, well educated, and well groomed women.

Her email goes on to further insult those who dress and think differently from herself – is this Quaker way of acceptance? Oh wait – Karen is NOT a Quaker, she only usurps the mantle of Quaker for her weekly protests. What would Jesus say about Karen?

Yes, Rich, it was peaceful. But, no, it was not a pleasant experience. And, no, we will not be moved. I’m sorry, but some of the people there, whether they are “peaceful” Or not, Dressed up in costumes that only say, “I won’t hurt you because those Cops Are here – but I would if I could.” I felt like I was either at a Halloween party or in a Viagra Commercial with A bunch of old guys (were any of them from West Chester?) who just Can’t Find any other way to express themselves. On one level, I felt sorry For them, That they feel compelled to put on a show like that in the streets of West Chester (which, trust me, strives for a very different ambience than That Display today). On another level, I found them repugnant and obnoxious, Not because Of their appearance so much, but because of their obvious hatred for us.

I believe the above paragraph covers all the “-isms” – Ag-ism, Sexism, Class-ism. Have I missed any? Her next barrage uses bully tactics to further denigrate the citizens who stood in support of victory this past Saturday. She seemed to have selective sight when it came to the signs displayed by her own groupies. Although, Frakking for Peace isn’t so much insulting as it is ridiculous:

The people you brought there today were rude and insulting – liketelling people in cars to whom we gave impeachment literature they should use it as toilet paper (over and over again). Several people who walked by asked me,”What’s the freak show? Is this a circus, or what? Where did these thugs come from?” The word “thugs”crossed a lot of lips of passers-by today.

My favorite line of this email entailed her invoking Jesus in her malicious diatribe. Like, you know, Jesus was right behind Rich during his speech. Jesus was no fan of religious marketers – ‘Then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s – Luke 20:20-26. What I’d like to know, where was Jesus in this email????

Like, who are you – really? Where was Jesus in that
speech?

I believe it is time for Karen to give up the Ghandi quote, as she has become what Ghandi so passionately resisted. The public face of this organization is belied by the vicious back channel smear campaign waged upon Rich and his supporters – including a dog, by Karen and her group. Can we then extrapolate that their public support of the troops and for peace is a facade as well?
