Casting Crowns: I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day

Christmas Eve 2012

Ode to Joy flashmob:

Time has gotten away from me this week and tonight my family gathers together for a traditional Wigilia dinner.  And to the delight of my nieces and nephews, presents are opened after dessert is served. Christmas day is a quiet affair with sleeping in late followed by Mass and breakfast.

What are your plans or traditions on Christmas eve?

May my readers have a joyous Christmas and a New Year full of happiness!

Back To Good – Breakfast With Santa

Dinner is Served

Spent Sunday with the niece and nephew at Longwood Gardens Breakfast with Santa program. Ava was so star struck when meeting Santa she forgot her carefully curated list of Christmas gifts, making my little diva quite contrary until I promised to help her write a letter to Santa.

Christmas Unwrapped

Christmas in Silver

I hope my readers enjoyed their Festivus, Christmas or Hanukkah. For the record, I celebrate Christmas with elements of Festivus mixed in for extra goodness.

I’m finally unwinding from a whirlwind weekend of family, food and lots of love sprinkled with wrapping paper and sparkly ribbon. Believe it or not during holiday gatherings I prefer to put the camera down in order to immerse in the moment without the distraction of a viewfinder.  Who am I kidding,  I’m too busy wrapping, cooking and caroling to stop and take a few proper pictures.

On the food front, this Christmas season was marked by a tremendous cookie failure. I consider myself a talented cook, but baking tends to be formidable challenge. I see a pile of flour – and I see a pile of flour – not the cookie within. My plan to recreate the Morton Family Strata for Christmas Day breakfast fell to the wayside and has been rescheduled for New Year’s Day.

Philadelphia Love

I was blessed with some very nice gifts this year, yet memories I really treasure (outside the surprise of a pretty blue boxed gift) was the time spent caroling with my nephew and sharing gift ‘secrets’ with my niece.

It looks like my good blogging buddy Jimmie Bise shares the same musical Christmas tradition

What fun memories do you have of this season? Let me know in the comment section.

Christmas 2010

A Christmas Wish

Christmas is a necessity. There has to be at least one day of the year to remind us that we’re here for something else besides ourselves. ~Eric Sevareid

May all my readers and lurkers have a Merry Christmas full of peace and  love, surrounded by family and friends.

The Senate Christmas Gift

No wait time for an MRI for Me! Merry Christmas!!

Thanks to Senators Reid, Nelson, Casey and Arlen – My dog will have better quality health care than humans covered by Obamacare.

Five Health Reform Whoppers that remind us that facts are a stubborn thing – and dems will ignore them in their obsessive quest for historical significance.

Christmas 2009

Angel 2009

Celebrate the Season

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along
The unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till, ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound
The Carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
‘There is no peace on earth,’ I said;
‘For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!’

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
‘God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men!’

HW Longfellow

2009 Tree of Bullhockey

Holy Family in West Chester, Pa

Holy Family in West Chester, Pa

It is that time of year – cold weather (despite the imminent peril of AGW), 10 foot tall inflatable snowman scenes, and 24 hour sales everywhere you turn.  Yes, my friends, it is time for the 2009 Tree of Bullhockey to be displayed on the lawn of the West Chester Courthouse. What is that, you ask?  A recent article posted on the Evening Bulletin website describes this ‘tree’:

...a gaudy, out-of-place, and inappropriate fourth monstrosity of a display tarnishing the courthouse lawn for the third year in a row. It’s called the Tree of Knowledge, a grotesque and kitschy shrine to Godlessness sponsored by the Freethought Society of Greater Philadelphia.

Indeed, the Freethought Society and their founder Margaret Downey are agents of the Enemy in every regard and their garish tree replete with “ornaments” in the shape of laminated book covers by prominent atheists is in poor taste. Of the hundreds of book titles hanging on the tree some include A Devil’s Chaplain and The God Delusion by avowed doubter Richard Dawkins, Misquoting Jesus by Bart Ehrman, and The End of Faith by Sam Harris.

Personally, I’d say the ‘freethought’ society corners the market on misquoting Jesus. Perhaps they are still fuming since Jesus bi**hslapped them out of his Father’s house 2000 + years ago.

On this ‘tree’ you can find any number of book covers claiming the fraud of Christianity, yet not one book cover proclaiming the fraud of islam.  If they truly had the courage of their atheist convictions, they would be impelled to denounce islam as the biggest fraud of mankind.  But they won’t, and that cowardice reveals their true bigoted nature.

You can view photos of from last year’s mockery of a tree HERE. The 2009 tree displays the same junk from last year.
