Diner en Blanc Preview Party
Diner en Blanc Philadelphia (DEBphl) organized a preview party hosted by Williams Sonoma that included food tastings from Garces Catering, DiBruno Brothers and Chef Tod of McCrossen’s Tavern. Guests munched and mingled while admiring several Diner en Blanc inspired tablecapes.
What is Diner en Blanc? Is is a chic picnic invented by François Pasquier and his close friends 25 years ago in Paris. A “friends and word of mouth” event that is invitation only keeping the character and dymamic of the event intimate and friendly. Invited participants are asked to dress in white, organize a high quality picnic meal with tables, chairs, glasses, silver and white linen. The secret destination for this posh picnic is revealed when the invited guests are escorted there by their hosts.
To give past participants and those hoping to be invited a taste of Diner en Blanc, the organizers of the Philadelphia event hosted a fabulous tablescape decorating contest at William Sonoma. I was delighted with all the creative ideas the designers put into their tablescape design.
The tablescape pictured below won a well deserved ‘Best of Show’. Flowers on the table and decorating the chair backs were fabulous ,as well as, lace napkins that match the lace trimmed tablecloth – be still my beating heart.
My personal pick for favorite tablescape. The design combines together elements pf Philadelphia along with the traditional Diner en Blanc themes. I loved the use of herbs as part of the decorative design. Also, you can never go wrong using hydrangea and white roses in your decorations.
I like how the menu was transferred onto the linen napkin in this tablescape.
The bright pop of color works well with this tablescape. The combination of a bicycle, rosemary and macaroons is quite clever.
Bubbly always is welcome at Diner en Blanc!
I’m going to display my cutlery like this at my next dinner party.
The food and drink served at this event was delicious and refreshing. Chef Tod created a lime flavored reduction served with scallops. The reduction was incredibly flavorful and I’m going to assume the scallops were as well.
I would urge you to see if a Diner en Blanc is being organized in your city and sign up on the waiting list – right now! It is a wonderful, chic event where good food and beautiful friends spend time together. My fingers are crossed in hopes of being one of the fortunate wait listed ones offered an invitiation to the event.
