2012 Year In Review
2012 was the year of firsts and lots of early morning bootcamp workouts. I set a challenge to see if I could train and complete a half marathon, a sprint triathlon and a marathon in one year. The answer would be ‘yes’. Everything I accomplished this year was worth every early wake up, every ache and every doubt that flitted across my mind. I’ve completed events that up until fairly recently I could not picture myself completing. This sweet feeling of accomplishment is one I want to remember and hold on to as I embark on new challenges in 2013. Lets have a look at what can be accomplished when you are not afraid to dream big and work hard.
2012 Broad Street Run. First big run after recovering from a broken ankle. I managed a PR for both the 6 mile and 10 mile portion of this race. What a sweet, sweet comeback run. It was just the beginning of an extraordinary year of sweet things.
2012 Oddyssey Half Marathon. My first half marathon and I was so happy to rock this race with my Team Philly peeps. Hot and humid run as evidenced by the funky hairstyle I’m sporting.
2012 SheROX Sprint Triathlon. My first triathlon. I was freaking scared to death before the start of the event, at one point crying in a port-a-potty 10 minutes before the race commenced. I was convinced I was going to drown or worse be disqualified at some point during the race. This event was a remarkable triumph over my own abject fears and I know this is just the beginning of my journey towards 140.6.
2012 Philadelphia Marathon. After a year of dreaming and a year of training, I can now call myself a Marathoner. Words cannot adequately express the bone deep pride of accomplishment that washes over me when I recall completing this Marathon. Also, I’ll never forget how freaking sore I was the next day.
Redefine Possible. What awesome marathon bling!
Two weeks later I find myself being chased by Zombies around downtown Annapolis. I survived and set a new Half Marathon PR for the 2012 TCS Annapolis Half marathon.
With the completion of this half marathon, my yearly total comes to four half marathons, one sprint triathlon, and one marathon.
What is in store for 2013?
While I was busy conquering the running world, the rest of the world tumbled on. Most notably, in July SCOTUS declared Obamacare to be Obamatax; Hurricane Sandy re-arranged the NYC and the Jersey Shore; 4 more Americans were killed on 9/11 while Obama, Hilary and Susan blamed an obscure video; and finally in November, elections happen, even to the best of us.
