2012 SheRox Triathlon Philadelphia
I so excited! this weekend I registered for the 2012 SheROX Sprint Triathlon. The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 5th 2012 in beautiful Philadelphia.
What is a sprint triathlon? It is a shorter distance Triathlon which covers a quarter of the distance of a full Triathlon. Consider it a starter Triathlon with distances of: .6K (.37 mile) swim, 25K (15.5 mile) bike, 5K (3.1 mile) run . SheRox Triathlon series are held across the country and they are the fastest growing women’s triathlon series in the country.
This video gives a great preview of what a SheRox triathlon is all about:

I’m sure you’re wondering why I’d take on this race, as my race dance card is quite full for this year. I’ve added cross training in addition to running in preparation for the upcoming Broad Street 10 Miler and Oddyssey Half Marathon. I’d like to continue with this training – with the addition of swimming and bicycling. A date with a triathlon is precisely the carrot needed to motivate me through the spring and summer.
So far, I’ve dusted off my bicycle – an awesome, yet seldom used, Trek hybrid and plan to have it tuned up at Guy Bicycles. I live within a mile of two gyms with 25 meter pools and I’m registered to train with Team Philly for the upcoming Broad Street run.
The triathlon occurs right before Team Philly marathon training officially starts. At that point, with the grace God, I’ll have Broad Street, a half marathon and a triathlon completed before I begin training in earnest for the Philadelphia Marathon.
It is all about chasing 26.2.
Now to figure out what brick training is all about…

I’ve had a few friends who’ve done it in years past and it’s a well organized event run by a really supportive group.
If you don’t already have them, when you take your bike in talk to the bike shop folks about getting high pressure street tires for your hybrid. It still won’t be a road bike, but the reduction in rolling resistance compared to tires that come standard on hybrids will make a huge difference both in how fast you can finish the ride and how fresh your legs will be for the run.
