Joey Vento, Successful Businessman and Conservative Activist Dies

It is with great sadness that the Independence Hall Tea Party announces the sudden death of Joey Vento from a massive heart attack.

Joey Vento

For the past year Mr. Vento has been treated for cancer. He has been an outspoken member of the Philadelphia community and will be greatly missed. May your soul rest in peace.

In recent years, Joey Vento has been cast into the spotlight for his ‘speak English’ sign posted at his business – Geno’s Steaks. I had the opportunity to cover his trial held by the Philadelphia Commission on Human RelationsĀ in 2007:

I made sure to video tape the pre trial drama:

I met Joey at the July 4th Tea Party…had my picture taken with him. A number of folks wanted pictures with him and he said….” I can’t believe this…I feel like a celebrity.”

He for some reason reminded me of Jimmy Durante….another very humble and beautiful man….

I heard the head of the Philly Tea Party talking about the 4th event on the radio today….it was wicked hot and he gave Joey some water and asked him if he wanted to sit down in the VIP tent they had….Joey said….”I’m no VIP I’m just an ordinary guy”

Wrong Joey….very, very wrong. Rest in Peace.

My friend was in from AZ in June. I took her to Geno’s and she was utterly amazed that Joey made our steaks. Guy was a hard worker, and he deserved his rest. Godspeed, Joey.
