Arlene Ackerman’s $905,000 Contract Payout
Only in Philadelphia….
Arlene Ackerman, former Philadelphia School District Superintendent, will be given a $905,000 contract buyout funded by taxpayers ($500,000) and anonymous donors ($405,000).
Despite failing to meet the objectives of her position, in order to ‘fire’ this woman, the city of Philadelphia had to buy out her contract.
How effed up is that?
Philadelphia Inquirer Editorial board has questions on the identity of the anonymous individuals funding part of her buyout package. They also raise the question as to why the Philadelphia School Board agreed to such a contract in the first place.
FYI – Philadelphia school board is the only school board whose members are selected, not elected by the citizens of Philadelphia.

It is overdue that we change to an elected school board and overhaul the funding and administration of the Philadelphia school system.
