Mayor Nutter Brings Christmas Back to Philly
It seems Mayor Nutter has decided to put Christmas back in the Village.
Mayor Nutter, after sustaining two days of controversy, wants “Christmas” back up on the signs at the entrance to the German Christmas Village at City Hall.
On Monday, Philly’s managing director, Richard Negrin, relayed to Thomas Bauer of the German American Marketing, Inc. complaints the city had received over the ‘Christmas Village’ sign. This prompted workers to remove the word ‘Christmas’ from the entrance sign sparking a nationwide furor. I suspect a number of those complaints originated from Margaret Downey’s ‘Free Thought’ Society as Christmas is their least favorite word.
Speaking of Christmas and victory, last week the ‘Free Thought’ Society was dealt a crushing blow in West Chester, Pa. as County Commissioners voted to put the decision of which winter holiday displays to place outside the historic courthouse in the hands of the county. This is a change in policy that allowed organizations such as the Pennsylvania Pastors Network, Chabad of Chester County, Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce and the “Free Thought” Society to place holiday displays outside the courthouse.
It looks as though there will be no ‘Tree of Knowledge’ this year in West Chester, Margret Downey of the ‘Free Thought” society responds with a lawsuit threat.
