Rob Kauffman, R-Chambersburg, said. Barbin, who gave an impassioned plea for the bill and its requirement for a study by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in consultation with those who would be affected before various types of veterans’ facilities could be closed. Barbin said such cuts should not be viewed from a partisan perspective, saying that the state should keep its promises to its veterans. “This isn’t a Republican issue or a Democratic issue; it’s an American issue,” he said, urging his audience to get definitive answers from their state representatives and state senators about their stand on the cuts.
“During this time of war, it is absolutely the wrong time for our federal government to step back from any of its commitment to our veterans,” Rendell said. “To do so would be penny-wise but pound-foolish.”
